Virtually no gadgets are marketed that do not use the Internet. It is not surprising that we panic slightly when the internet does not do what we want. In 2015 we are completely dependent on a good internet connection. Not only because we cannot surf the internet or because almost all conversations go through the internet these days, but also because devices in the house are increasingly using the internet. Sometimes it goes a bit far, but often it is also very useful.
The smart thermostat
They can now be found in most modern households, the smart thermostat. A thermostat is controlled by an App and that is connected to the WiFi network. Google’s Nest is a good example of this, but Honeywell also makes beautiful specimens.
The LED lamp
Turning off a lamp with a normal switch is sooooo 1999, in 2015 you can of course do that with an App. The Philips Hue package contains LED balls, a WiFi port, and a mobile application with which you can easily switch your lamps on and off. You can choose the color of the light (white, red or blue) and you can also decide in advance when your lights should be on and off. Very handy. So you no longer have to get out of bed to turn off your lamp.
The WiFi Speakers
Who still uses CDs to listen to music these days? Most music these days is streamed via Spotify or played via another application on your computer, phone, or tablet. These devices are often connected to a wireless speaker. Sonos is currently the absolute leader in this field and it also uses an internet connection.
The smart washing machine
LG, Whirlpool, Samsung, all have ‘smart washing machines‘ in their range these days. A washing machine that you operate using an application. Super handy, because this way you can also operate your washing machine remotely. No more the problem of having to do laundry at night because you don’t have time for it during the day. You put the laundry in the washing machine in the morning before you go to work and switch on the washing machine one and a half hours before you come home via the App. When you get home you can immediately take your clean laundry out of the machine.
The smart coffee maker
Another white goods item that is increasingly making use of the internet is coffee makers. The Saeco coffee makers, for example. With the App you simply make your favorite cup of coffee from your workplace, you only have to pick it up yourself. Very handy if you also have a cup under the device.
Smart TV
Who watches regular programs these days? Nowadays we all want to watch it at a time chosen by ourselves, right? It is not without reason that on–demand services such as Netflix are extremely popular. A good internet connection is also required for this. All those ‘smart‘ devices are very handy, but if your internet does not work, it is of no use at all. These devices make us completely dependent on a good internet connection. You would think that in 2015, you would no longer have to think about a good internet connection, but the reality is unfortunately slightly different. Far too often the internet fails us And that’s not surprising, because we often still have the same subscription as fifteen years ago when our wishes were very different.
It is therefore absolutely not a bad idea to take a good look at your internet and TVsubscription.Do you actually still use your normal TV subscription, or do you really only use on-demand services? Maybe you want a normal TV subscription during a World Cup or the Olympic Games, but you really don’t want it the rest of the time. With Vodafone Thuis you put together your own subscription and you can adjust it every month for free. This way, your subscription always meets your needs and you can let it grow with your digital household goods. At least you don’t have to suffer from the cold in the winter because your internet connection did not want to cooperate.
