The interest of companies in Open Source software is growing more and more. Penetration in the SME sector remains low in Italy, against the trend compared to Europe.
Software 2.jpgMagirus recently organized two events dedicated to open-source software aimed at both the channel and users, to underline how the growth of free software represents a real opportunity for both distributors and resellers and users of the products.
The two events “The Open Source Days” in Milan and Rome had over 250 participants who were able to attend the presentations by Magirus and NetConsulting on the market situation of open source software, to those of Red Hat, MySql, and HP on architectures and databases open source for the new business models of companies, and to the testimonies of application cases by VAR Babel, Byte-Code, Infoklix and Kinetikon, who presented advanced, reliable, safe solutions with an excellent return on investment.
According to NetConsulting:
* 27.7% of all Italian companies use open-source software, with a peak of 31% in the case of large companies
* the sectors in which penetration is highest
or are TLC and media with the 58%
or followed by GDO with 43%
or and by services with 40%
* while those in which it is lower
or the industry with a 20%
oe insurance with 17%
Fairly low even penetration in SMEs in other countries they are among the largest users of open-source software.
